The article describes research that showed that in the case of electron-rich secondary benzyl alcohols, the dehydrative coupling reaction with thiols can proceed without the involvement of any catalyst. The best results were obtained using hexafluoroisopropanol as the solvent. In addition to a wide range of thioethers, the reaction was also successfully carried out with allylsilanes, indoles, and activated arenes.
